eSport: Tournaments to continue despite the Olympic Games

The Olympic Games will not be a brake on tournaments in the world of video games. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its partner Intel are maintaining their competitions scheduled for July.

The Tokyo Olympics (23 July-8 August) will not disrupt the eSports community's routine. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and its partner Intel announced on Wednesday that "e sport competitions by nation on Rocket League and Street Fighter V will take place during the Tokyo Olympic Games (23 July to 8 August)", according to lequipe.fr.

The organizers have already drawn up a calendar for the competitions. This allows them to better control their program. Thus, the teams involved will compete in geographical zones. With qualifications in two stages planned for June.

After these qualification phases, the best teams will be admitted to the final phases. These are scheduled from 11 to 14 July for Rocket League and from 16 to 21 July for Street Fighter V. "Unlike in 2020, the finals will not be held in Japan. But online and will be divided by region: four on Rocket League, eleven on Street Fighter V," says lequipe.fr.

A prize pool of 250,000 dollars (135 million FCFA) is at stake. It will be shared between the best teams.
