African Swimming Championships: South Africa's Rebecca Meder wins seven gold medals

Rebecca Mader is outclassing the African Swimming Championships. The 19-year-old South African has already won seven gold medals, including four in the individual and three in the team event.

Rebecca Meder is currently the top South African swimmer at the African Swimming Championships in Accra, Ghana (11-17 October). The 19-year-old nugget has already won seven gold medals in the Ghanaian capital, including four in the individual event. After brilliantly winning the 100m and 200m freestyle, the nugget won the 100m backstroke with a time of 1mn2s90. A complete athlete, Meder also won the 400 m medley.

Rebecca Meder was also a great team player. Lining up in the 4X100m and 4X200m freestyle relays, Rebecca's teammates are African champions in these events. And that's not all. They won the 4X100m mixed freestyle with a new championship record of 3 min 34s 2. The South African nugget thus totals seven gold medals.

This is not the first time that Rebecca Meder has shone at the African Swimming Championships. She won four gold medals at the 2016 edition in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Eliminated in the heats of the 4X200m freestyle at the Olympics, Meder is making up for it in Accra. She could even add more metals to her collection before the end of the competition. South Africa currently leads the medal table with 42 medals, 17 of which are gold.
